Sprint might have made a mistake, announcing the Evo 4G months before actual release so that competitors could see and make their products better, and possibility of an even better phone when it releases, and cutting off sales of the HD2.

But it was worth it.

Sprint probably enjoyed it.

For at least a week on Engadget, the Evo overtook the iPad on rank, and was covered, and coveted over and over and over.

Watching nearly every Engadget commenter regretting having bought HD2′s actually a day AFTER it was announced, and those who bought the Nexus, the DROID, and etcetera.

Watching everyone wanting the phone NOW.

You know how I said about the ‘Next Big Thing’? Like the iPhone was to 2007? This is closer than most others.

Likely the first in the US with a front-facing camera.

8 MP camera. 720p video. HTC Sense. Android.

This just might be the killer phone.

If Apple disappoints at WWDC with iPhone G4 [NOT 4G]

I’m moving.

Of course, by that time HTC will have rolled out the Evo killer, announcing it 4 months later, and we’ll likely stay on our toes for that.

In final opinion,

The HTC Evo 4G is about an entire year ahead of everyone else.

At the Apple Event on Wednesday, Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple (if you don’t know who he is, have you been living under a rock or something?), said during his keynote, that Apple was the largest mobile products company by revenue. And to quote some of his speech, he said that, “Apple’s most popular products are mobile products[bestselling, etc.,] and that by revenue Apple is the largest mobile products company by revenue”.

Whoa.

I was reading a liveblog of this, and at that moment, I read the line again and I knew it.

Apple shares no love for the desktop computer line.

They’ve made it clear.

Mobile products are their most successful line.

If you know someone who owns a Mac, give me a ratio of how many people own a desktop Mac.

I know two people that are DISCERNING whether or not to get one of the new iMacs. One is a longtime Mac user, who actually does have some older desktop Macs. The other guy is a newtimer to Mac, about a year or half a year. He’s thinking about getting an iMac, and currently owns one 15-inch MBP. Then everyone else, including one who just switched (yay) have Macbooks or Macbook Pros. Including me. Without another supporting Mac desktop. (I actually did get a $350 iMac, 3years old, on eBay last month, I’m about to get rid of it by trading it in to PowerMax. But it’s not an official, ‘my’ desktop. I bought it with the sole intention of selling it off.)

Apple’s obviously not oblivious to this. They know this.

That’s what they’re focusing.

I highly doubt that in June or something, Apple will come out and say that they’re ‘completely removing’ their desktop line or something, there’s like a 1% chance of that.

But there is a decline in Desktop computers.

Most pros at companies or such still use desktops, but typical people are moving over to a laptop.

Personally, I’m at a crossline between saying that I could live without a desktop, or that I need one. My main computer is the computer I’m using now, a 17-inch Macbook Pro, 2 years old now, but we have a Dell desktop running Linux. My devotion to geekery would probably need a desktop, but really, in main use, laptops are really soon becoming as powerful as Desktops… even more!

But I do think that over the years, laptops will take over the market. I’m making a safe assumption here, not an assurance. Take this as 37/100 grains of salt.

Well guys, everyone reading my blog, (oh yeah, next time, maybe, just please leave a comment? I’m really unaware about how many people actually read this, and my undying fear is that nobody actually reads this small corner of the internet. I know, I sound like an advertiser, but there is actually sort of a thrill in knowing that someone reads your blog and likes it or dislikes it. Consider it.) I made a website for a fun little project I thought up yesterday.

Well here’s the deal. So on the website, I have fake interviews with people. Like ‘Fake Interview with Steve Ballmer’.

These are completely imaginary, and not real. I already made one, and in it, I pretend to interview Ballmer under the name of Jack. Right here: — http://fakeconversations.tumblr.com/

So next time, maybe it’ll be Steve Jobs, or somebody.

But maybe you can suggest another person to interview imaginarily. Leave a comment below.

Ok, since my last list of predictions, lots have happened in the tech arena. Actually, it’s only been like a week or two, but I think I should redo it, fresh.

2010 is going to be a big year, and I’m thinking straighter today, so here’s what I think it going to happen.

First off, let’s classify my predictions for events. There’s the 27th event [hereon referred to as Event 1], I’m undecided on one in March/April for iPhone OS 4 but either way, [Event 2], WWDC [Event 3], September Event [Event 4]

Ok, so now lets see.

Apple Tablet: This will either cease to exist, or as I’ve said thousands of times, be a huge cover for a really huge product, or it’ll be announced at Event 1.

iPhone 4G : C’mon Apple, do it. Make the move to the RedV and go 4G! If this iPhone is released this year, it’ll either be a regular iPhone on verizon, requiring a new iPhone release at Event 3, or a brand new iPhone at either Event 1 or 3, running or not on Verizon.

iPhone OS 4.0: It’s either coming Event 1, or Event 2. This one is close to definite.

Macbook Pro: Look, if the Macbook Pro’s don’t get at least one i5, I’ll eat a hat. Or at least upgrades. Maybe making the standard 8 GB RAM upgradable to 16GB. Possibly a bit more revision on the construction overall, and its look. E.G., the Macbook 4,1 to 5,1 transition. However, the original Macbook Pro looked the same for 4 revisions, so I’m going 20/100 on this one. Will be Hardware upgrade though. Event 1, 2, or 4

Macbook: This will sit there, watching everything being upgraded and slowly fade itself out as the 13′book Pro price is lowered to $999. Or the Macbook’s price could be lowered drastically. This would either decrease or increase the price of the Tablet. The tablet if less expensive be less featured, and if more expensive would need to be a real computer. Or the Macbook might just be destroyed off the line. Event 1, 2, 4

Macbook Air: This product, ok, was a huge hit at lunch for being so thin. Big deal. If it’s not upto speed, it’s not useful. It will need a major revision or get wiped off the line. If it stays, it’ll need a price drop and/or an upgrade. Event 1, 2, or 4

Apple TV: This one desperately needs something. Either trash it or fix it up, Apple. It’s been shunned/ignored for sometime, introducing a small update late last year, that nobody was really happy with. I’m also betting on a price drop. Event 1, 2,or 4.

iPods: iTouch: Bet the farm a 128 GB version, 64 gig, and 32 gig versions this year. along with some real upgrades. maybe even a redesign. Try a price drop on this one Apple. Event 4.

iPod Classic: Either it disappears, or it stays with price drop and/ or HDD upgrade. Event 4.

iPod Nano: Quiet year probably for this one, space upgrades needed, with maybe price drop, Event 4 likely.

iPod Shuffle: No drastic stuff here. Space upgrade? Price drop? Something, likely Event 4.

iLife: iLife X/10 bet the farm. And maybe, 50% chance, iLife Mobile preshipped with iPhone OS. Event 1, 2, 3, 4

Pro Software [Logic/Final Cut]: Upgrades, new stuff, price drop? Event 1, 2, 3, 4.

OSX 10.7: Probably OSX Lynx, and it’ll likely be announced at Event 3. To be released in 1-2 years.

Conclusion:

Big year for Apple.

The iPhone. The phone name that has set the standard of mobile phones, and has broken down barriers in the mobile industry.

To put it in an epical way.

The Nexus One. The phone that was racing all over the WWW, and is possibly the iPhone KILLER! To put again in a falsely epical way.

I’ll get to Nexus vs iPhone after a breakdown of phones in the last year.

Well so here’s the deal. The Blackberry Storm released last year [was it 08? unsure], poised as an iPhone Killer. It failed unanimously, reducing the Storm name to shreds. Mainly due to it’s clickscreen trying to falsely compete with the iPhone. By falsely competing, I mean didn’t even come close. The Storm received negative feedback and receival. I know two people with Storm’s and that’s about it. I’m not even gonna try to list the amount of people with an iPhone.

Then out came Palm with the Pre and Pixi. Now, these were labeled iPhone Killers but I think it didn’t get enough mindshare to really go that way. But though it didn’t really pose itself as a big competitor to iPhone, Palm brought out two great phones to be in the market, but it wasn’t really the iPhone killer.

Now I’m gonna rewind a bit. Back to when Google/HTC released the Google G1. [HTC G1? Whatever] The G1 was sort of a small opening to Android. But now, it’s coming out to be the next big thing.

But iPhone Killer? I’m not sure if that’d be considered an overstatement, or an understatement. With a likely huge set of HTC Phones that are likely to be unveiled later this year [sidenote: I fell in love with HTC Phones when I first saw the Eris. Design = Pure Win for HTC Phones] Android is taking over most of the HTC Lineup, leaving WinMo in a smaller share of the HTC Phone lineup, Android has surely gotten HTC’s eyes.

By the end of 2010, we should be able to tell where Android is going, and how much it could be considered against the iPhone. And with another iPhone likely being released soon, we’ll see soon enough.

But then, recently, Android decided to switch to the offense team, and with starting at the DROID and Droid Eris, they began rollout of a new series of phones [speaking of which, where are all the other DROID's got to?] the DROIDs. These were more than publicly put out as direct iPhone competetion, and did they underperform, perform, or overperform?

The DROID by Motorola had a TERRIBLE keyboard, being the chief losing point for Motorola here. The Eris also has HTC Sense, so in the private Droid arena, personally, the Eris is better.

The Droid’s both had 5 MP cameras, and uh, nice screens and Android. The ‘iDon’t’ ads list pretty much most of what the Droid Does that iPhone doesn’t, but googling ‘droid doesn’t will offer some other important factors to consider.

Then, Google outed the Nexus One a few days ago.

The Nexus One mainly has a Snapdragon 1Ghz processor, 5 MP Camera, AMOLED 3.7 in screen.

Note, even for 5 MP, the camera has been noted to be outdone by most other phones.

Personally, I don’t see much newer from the Droids. If I were to choose an Atedroid phone, my choices would range from the Droids to the Nexus. The only two factors I’d consider is comfortability in navigation, and proccesor. Eris and Nexus have comfort, Nexus wins in Processor.

So iPhone vs Nexus One is a hard question, usually already answered in most iPhone – Droid comparisons.

Even for its 5 MP camera, I’ve been told the iPhone’s camera is better. The iPhone’s screen is still better. But then in some arena’s the Nexus wins. What I want to see happen, is for a real game changing Android device to show up. Something better then what we have. Not like, better proc, better ram, better battery, better screen, better camera or anything.

Something different.

In the same way when in 2007, and the age of ugly phone OS’es, and ugly devices, the iPhone came out looking better then literally any phone, and then all the phone industry followed suit.

I want an Android device that that.

I want it to happen so that we’ll look back and say, “Remember in 2010, when all the phones were so ugly and crappy, and the [insert genius Android phone name here] came out and the rest of the phone industry followed suit”.

I’ll know how great a phone is when Apple is on all fours trying to catch up.

Now the second topic, the Next Big ‘Thing’.

For years, we’ve had the iPod. Literally the breath of life for Apple that really resurrected the company.

Google needs no resurrection, they just need more devices to finish taking over the world.

So we’ve seen Android phones, netbooks, and e-readers, expanding and expanding. This is not aimed at Google alone, it’s aimed at all of the commercial industry.

We’d been listening to music for years and YEARS. Everybody says that in 2001 Apple completely changed how you listen to music. It did.

Video-Game Consoles changed how we play games.

VHS>DVD>Blu-Ray Changed how we watch movies.

Want to go even more back?

Board Games changed how we entertained ourself. Actually it didn’t change it. It was the basis for building everything off of.

Movie theaters changed what people did in their spare time, Movies.

The Internet changed how we communicate with everyone in the world and connected with the world.

But you know what?

There’s still more internets to be discovered.

And you could be the one.

C’mon Apple, C’mon Google, I want to see the next toaster.

First off, the product that’s been an Apple Insider legend for years.

The Mythical Tablet. iSlate? iTablet? Macbook Touch? Hereon will be referred to as the Tablet.

Why?

Recent insights provided by former Apple marketing executive handed over some not-so-surprising info.

Found here, it provides an insight into how we should be taking in information about the tablet, and what regard to take information in leaks.

Now the reason why I am not using the name “iSlate”. The term was realized due to the fact that Apple owns the domain name “iSlate” which could mean it’ll be called iSlate, and could mean nothing at all. As stated in the article, this could be another detail to set the insiders off the wrong way. While we keep thinking about iSlate, they’ve gone past us finishing with another name. Now, I’m not saying it WON’T be called iSlate, I’m saying that we have no 100/100 lock on it’s name, so hence, I will continue to refer to the this ‘tablet’ as the ‘tablet’.

I have stated this in another post and I’m repeating here. Everybody thinks that the tablet will be interacted with in the same way we interact with devices today. Again, I’m not saying it won’t be used the same way as the iPhone, but I’m not saying it will. I’d give a 99/100 for it being touchscreen, but on UI, I’m thinking big. The iPhone UI is a radical change from a full OSX because OSX runs on desktops and notebooks, but iPhone OS is made for a mobile device. The tablet UI will probably be somewhere crossed between both of these operating systems. Or both of them. Maybe it runs a supersized verision of iPhone OS. Maybe it runs OSX. Maybe it runs a crosperating system [new word, crosperating {cross per ate ing} : Means running two OS'es in one] Not like virtualization, e.g. VMWare, but rather a seamless integration of both OS’es.

Another path that was originally considered, but as time went by has become shunned and ignored, is what if the tablet is an addition to the Mac computer line? When the iPhone released, it got its own tab on the Apple site. Now, what if the tablet goes into the Mac section? It could be a Macbook Touch. With a Magsafe, USB, Firewire, etc.

But this presents the problem that I was about to start talking about.

Purpose.

When the iPhone came out, it was special. It wasn’t replicating all the things you could do somewhere else. It was useful because it provided some important functions done on a computer simply in your pocket. Reading, writing email, web browsing, etc.

The problem is, and it could be the reason Jobs has rejected previous tablet prototypes, is that it has to have some purpose that makes it unique from the other devices. The iPhone is very much like the iTouch, but unique in it’s own way from everything else on the line. The Mac computers are all different from PC’s, etc.

I think the leaks so far are a grain of salt as to what Apple’s going to do.

The iPhone was everything no one thought it would be, and few things people had.

So personally here’s what I think is going to happen.

There will be 3-4 events throughout the year. 1, Jan 27, 2, March-April [maybe, mb not], 3, WWDC [June-July], 4, September.

Tablet will likely be announced. [Event 1]

New MacBook Pros, price reductions , Updates or Rebranding of the Mac Pro and Xserve lines. w or w/o price reductions[Event 1 and/or Event 3]

iPhone OS 4.0 [Event 1, or Event 2]

Verizon iPhone [Likely Event 1, or Event 2, or Event 3]

New iPhone, likely price reduction, front facing camera, 5 MP camera, better proc and RAM possible[Event 1, Event 2, or Event 3]

iPod updates. price reductions likely as well for Touch line. Possible Nano line price reduction as well (likely Classic removal, iTouch 128 GB, Nano more mem, Shuffle either removed or updated mem) [Event 1, and/or Event 4]

Apple TV either complete removal, or complete revamp and update, w or w/o price update[Event 1, or Event 3]

Minor updates to the iMac line, nothing major, likely price reductions

Maybe some other secret Apple product that may produce no tablet, but maybe the tablet is just a mask to hide some other product. All the attention to the tablet reduces any other speculation, and there could be some other big thing.

I think Apple should pull another ’97. By this, I mean that in 1997, when Steve returned, the Apple product line was crowded, ugly, and way to many products were there, confusing people as what to buy like most other computer companies still are today. Steve came in and got rid of many products, making many angry, but as an after thought, over 11 years later, I think this was the right move. But now, again, slowly, Apple product line is getting crowded. A lot of computers, a lot of choices. Personally, I think for products like the MacBook Pro, they need to put it simply as Macbook Pro: Buy Now. Then, you’d enter a page to spec your computer. This would simplify everything, and they could explain how increasing or decreasing certain values would be good or bad for you. Apple could also take apart the online store so that it would only have Apple products and have a seperate “Accesory Store” inside the Apple Store on the web. Removing certain products helps too.

(End of likely longest post I’ve written)

Merry Christmas Blogosphere!

It’s 2:30 A.M. and I’m up capturing video from a camera.

Now let’s get to the post. Even though the post began already. I mean the formal beginning of the post.

Welcome to the Post : Merry Christmas Blogosphere

It might be me, or this year I saw so much less commercialism on TV or anywhere than EVER BEFORE. Maybe it’s because I didn’t watch that much TV. Whatever it be, it’s slowed. This is a good thing. Christmas this year came to me quickly, and the excitement that I had when I was younger, just doesn’t exist. Now, Christmas is really the birth of our Lord to me. Now I’m going to begin my Santa Argument. This is a lengthy one, and if you don’t find long stuff entertaining/interesting, you should skip.

So, thousands, maybe millions of kids of today STILL believe that there is a Santa Claus that comes at night and leaves presents under a tree. Ok, now whenever I say, “Ok guys, there is NO SUCH EXISTENT PERSON AS SANTA CLAUS,” the answer is always, “Oh yes there is, it’s Saint Nicholas and he exists”. Course, he’s a saint, he’s in heaven, he did exit and still exists and is alive. But, here’s the flipside. There is NO Santa Claus. There is a Saint Nicholas. Saint Nick, yes. But no Santa. Yes, I know, Santa means Saint in Dutch. Ok. But still. No Santa Claus.Saint Nicholas was awesome, don’t get me wrong. It’s the Christmas Connection that annoys me. And to keep going, even if you want to keep calling Saint Nicholas, Santa Claus, go ahead. But how will you connect him to Christmas? The main story of Saint Nicholas, (where he saves three people from debt, hence bringing in Chimneys to everything Santa related), nobody even knows if this took place even in December. The only connection between Saint Nicholas and Christmas is, 1. Saint Nicholas’es Feast Day is in December, and 2. the constant reminder of Giving. Giving, is hence connected with 2 things, 1. God giving his Son to the World and 2. The Three Kings bringing Frankincense, Gold, and Myrr.

There. Present your continual Santa EXISTETH arguments below.

Ok, listing mobile OS’es, we’ve got iPhone OS, Windows Mobile, Symbian (does anyone actually like that? I’d use it for an N97 and the 8MP camera, but still….), webOS (anything else Palm – related), and anything else? But who cares, because in the opposite corner is… in one word…

Android.

Android is spreading like an infection, but a good one. D’ya see all the leaked Android phones coming just from HTC next year? Ok, so that aside, I’ll stop making Android look awesome even though I’m still on iPhone.

But let’s look at what’s happening.

If the Nexus One turns out to be just another Dev-Phone, Half-HTC, Half-Google, then there is no purpose for this post. But since there is a trademark filing for “Nexus One” by Google, and the trademark requires that this be a product to be sold, (ahem, uh, “trademark”), we can be 99.9999999999% sure it’s happening. There’s still 0.0000000001 chance it won’t, I choose the majority.

But here’s what Google’s done so far. They’ve rolled out Android out on plenty of phones on different manufacturers, and having Android as the base for other devices, [nook, anyone?] it’s taking a Microsoft and Windows [Mobile] take to it.

By this, I mean, Microsoft has rolled out Windows [XP, Vista, 7] [Mobile] onto many computers/phones and this is good to have a variety of devices, but it can be problem causing.

Switch to what Google isn’t doing… yet.

This is Apple. Apple made an iPhone, one sole device, with one sole OS. This is good for the same reason that Microsoft’s model can be troublesome. Different devices have different hardware. It’s as simple as that. Android needs to work on all of these devices.

And, it takes to long to choose what device to get. (Eris, Droid, Hero, myTouch?)

Whereas with iPhone, “Oh I want to get something with iPhone OS on it. Oh there’s only one. Ok, so that’s that. {goes and get’s iPhone}”

See? Windows is even more problematic because of drivers and other blah that I don’t worry about cuz I’m A Mac.

But with Nexus One, Google could be pulling an Apple…. any thoughts? Say below in the comments.

Ok, before I start, I wanna say, that right now, I don’t think it’s right people say, I went and saw that “film” or I took out that “film”. Why? Film is the thin-paperish thingy that you can read images and videos (when rotating at a certain framerate or something) off of. However, I might add, that my first example couldn’t count as an example can’t count, because, at theaters, it’s still film. However, on second thought, you aren’t really seeing the film, but the movie being projected from the film. Yep. That’s what I just wasted 5 min of your life on. But let’s move on.

Movies (note: first time I typed this part, I wrote “films” where movies is.) tend to fall into categories after you watched them. You may not realize this, but it’s there. See, sometimes you go and see a movie that’s just phenomanal, and you go say, “I saw this movie, it was AWESOME, you should totally see it.”. This is the Great Movie category. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) would fall in this category no doubt. Then you see a movie, and you go say, “Yeah, the movie was good.”. Note at this point you don’t recommend the movie. I mean, they could take it and say, “they said it was good, let’s go see it”, but you weren’t very enthusiastic. In other words, it was good, but it’s not something you’re going to say, “GO SEE IT. NOW.” Also, in between these two categories falls many other states of movie likedness. The second I’d put for the movie, The Polar Express (20–). That movie sorta bored me. Now the last categorizing is when you see it, and you say, “That movie was terrible.” This is self-explanatory, and for that reason I will not explain it further for I am hungry and must go eat.

Android: Why it’s awesome.

Well, it’s made by Google.

Yesh that’s about it. (Yes, Google IS trying to take over the world. They already got our computers. They’re slowly weaving their way into our phones too. Maybe our toasters will come with Google imprinted on it too. Like “Google Toaster OS”. Or a toaster running Android with a 3.5 in screen showing you levels of how toasted whatever your toasting is. Or just something awesome.)

Android is a linux based mobile operating system, so it rocks too.

But if you’re looking at it like that, Palm’s webOS is Linux-based, and Linux is based on UNIX, and iPhone OS is based on OSX, which is based on UNIX so iPhone OS is highly related to Linux to. (WAAAY too many X’es)

However, who do I think is making and will make the best Android devices from now?

HTC.

Not Motorola, or any other. HTC.

Why?

Look, if HTC can make Windows Mobile look good, they can do anything.

And that aweinspiring HTC Sense? Yeah. That too. FTW.

Motorola’s DROID? FTL. Aka, For the lose.

I mean, there was this hole bunch (misspelling intentional), run of Motorola DROID ads, and it looked awesome… on screen.

But that keyboard (start of endless gripe begins here), is just unbearable. Absolutely unbearable. Even BLACKBERRY keyboards are better than that. And that’s saying something. It’s got no spacing and… blahblahblahblahblah…. (end of endless gripe. or I stop listing it here. It could go on forever)

HTC Droid Eris? FTW. Really.

It’s crafted in this awesome way that goes in your hand, it’s casing is this awesome material that just feels wonderful on my hand.

And then, look out.

HTC doesn’t stop at the Eris. Apparently, they’re bringing a boatload of new Android devices NEXT YEAR, including a awesome Snapdragon running (aka, 1Ghz CPU), bigscreenied, device, the HTC Passion… hold it… running ANDROID.

And they’ve got all these other sweet looking devices coming up. The Legacy, the Salsa, oh the list could go on!

And HTC also quietly buttoned up it’s small section of Windows Mobile devices realizing that Android was the next big thing, and that Windows Mobile wasn’t bringing them success.

Hate being anti-Windows Mobile and ANTI-DROID, but really, the HTC design is captivating me.

Any thoughts? Please leave comments below.
